What is Safe at Home
Safe at Home is a fundraising campaign that supports the Child Abuse Prevention Fund a program that helps families and changes lives every day. The Child Abuse Prevention Fund is a program of Children’s Hospital and Health System. It works to keep kids safe at home and prevent child abuse from ever happening in the first place. Keeping children safe. Raising happy and healthy children. There are no more important issues!
The Child Abuse Prevention Fund makes a difference by:
- Helping parents learn positive ways to cope with the stresses of raising a child without resorting to physical violence or verbal abuse.
- Supporting home visitation programs that help parents get started on the right foot when they are pregnant or a child is born. Parent education professionals provide house calls to parents on a regular basis and teach them about child development and positive parenting strategies.
- Teaching parents learn how to protect their child from sexual abuse and recognize potential abusers.
- Ensuring the home environment is safe (there are working smoke detectors, baby gates across stairways and unsafe rooms, safe sleep environments for babies like cribs or pack and plays).
- Making sure parents have the necessary baby care items like diapers.
- Providing community education programs that deliver messages such as “never shake a baby.”
